| Pinus
pinaster (cluster pine or maritime pine) is a
southern European tree that has been planted in various
parts of Tasmania and has become naturalised in a few
places.
It is an erect tree with spreading branches and very
distinctive foliage. The leaves are long needles and are
held in clusters of two with a brown sheath around the
base. The female cones are large and woody.
Pinus wallichiana
and P. radiata have
also been naturalised in Tasmania. They have either five (P.
wallichiana) or three (P. radiata) leaves per
fascicle.
