Microseris (Asteraceae) 2:381

There are three very similar species of Microseris (native yams) in Tasmania, M. scapigera, M. walteri and M. lanceolata. They are best separated by characteristics of the root and of the fruit (cypsela). These species closely resemble dandelions (Taraxacum), but the leaves of Microseris are narrower and the flowers and seeds are not beaked (i.e. they do not have a long narrow section between the body of the ovary and the pappus).
