| Leucojum
aestivum (popularly called snowdrops, but more
correctly called snowflakes) is a very common garden species
that has become established in both urban and rural areas.
It is a robust plant with a bulb, the flowers are white
with a green spot on each petal and sepal, and are
pendulous and in umbels. It is similar in general
appearance to the very common weed Allium
triquetrum but that species smells of garlic,
has superior ovaries and the petals and sepals have green
stripes rather than green spots.
