| Tasmania
has four introduced species of Allium (the onion,
leek and garlic genus). These species have bulbs, narrow,
flat or cylindrical and hollow leaves, and smell of garlic
or onion. The flowers are in umbels on the ends of long,
erect stalks. Leucojum
aestivum is an occasional weed that is
superficially similar to A. triquetrum.
Allium neapolitanum is commonly known as naples
onion. A. triquetrum is known as triangular
garlic and A. ampeloprasum is wild
leek or great-headed garlic. A.
triquetrum is a very common roadside weed.
