| The
only member of this genus in Tasmania is H. hygrometrica,
a perennial herb arising from a tuber. The leaves are
grass-like, up to 20cm long, with thin, sparse hairs. It is
a species of open vegetation ranging from coastal heaths and
herbfields to inland grasslands and woodlands. The flowers
are conspicuous and yellow.
Hypoxidaceae was once considered to be part of Liliaceae,
which was a very artificial grouping of plants and has
therefore been splintered in numerous families. To see the
