Tasmania
has one naturalised species of Arum. Arum italicum
is a garden escapee that looks a little like the white arum
lily, Zantedeschia
aethiopica, except that the leaves are more
uneven and variegated and the spathe (white part of the
flower) points vertically upward and is narrower than Z
aethiopica.
The leaves have large heart-shaped laminas (~30 cm long) at
the ends of long petioles. The flowers are large,
asymmetrical, creamy white and tubular with a yellow column,
or spadix, in the centre.
