| Ranunculus
sessiliflorus
(rockplate buttercup) is a small, rare herb.
It is grows in dry grasslands and dry grassy woodlands. The
plant is tufted, with slender stems 5-30 cm long, spreading
from the base of the plant, and often trailing across the
ground. The leaves are small (only about 1cm wide), shaggy
with hairs and trifoliate, with each leaflet often trilobed.
It has very small, yellow-green flowers. The achenes
("seeds") have only a few bristles. This species is similar
to R. pumilio,
which is, however, a species of wet grasslands and has
achenes ("seeds") with numerous bristles on their sides and
edges. |
