| Lomatia polymorpha (Proteaceae)

| Lomatia
polymorpha (mountain guitarplant) is a common
and widespread species. It grows in subalpine woodlands,
lowland scrubby vegetation in wetter areas, and occasionally
in rainforest. It is an erect shrub with conspicuous
terminal spikes of cream flowers and leaves that are rusty
hairy underneath and have recurved margins. Although the
common forms of the two species are strikingly different, L.
polymorpha intergrades seamlessly with L.
tinctoria (notably in the Lake St Claire area).
This could be the result of repeated hybridisation. |
