This family includes a few introduced species of woody
climbers, shrubs and herbs. The genera Dipsacus and
Scabiosa which were once included in the family
Dipsacaceae are now included in Caprifoliaceae.
The genera Centhranhus and Valerianella wich
were included in Valerianaceae are now recognised as part of
Caprifoliaceae.
The flowers have inferior ovaries with 2-5 joined ovaries
and may be symmetrical or asymmetrical.
Sambucus was previously included in this family,
but is now recognised as a species of Viburnaceae.
