Jamesoniella colorata is an extremely common subalpine
liverwort, typically found growing in large clumps on rock or on the
ground. It can also be found growing epiphytically in higher
altitude rainforest. In the field this species is easily recognized
by their red coloration, especially in very exposed areas. However,
green forms also exist, especially in less exposed areas. The leaves
are papillose when viewed under the microscope
