Argyrotegium fordianum is a rare native alpine species that is found in grassy depressions or amongst shrubs on Ben Lomond and on the NE part of the Central Plateau. It is the largest of the alpine cudweeds. It has silvery white leaves a few cm long and 5-10 mm wide in small rosettes, and often forms mats. It resembles the more common species, A. mackayi, but has larger phyllaries and the flower  heads are always in groups and held on visible scapes.
