| Luzula
(woodrush) is a moderately large genus of rushes in
Tasmania, represented by 9 native and 3 introduced species.
They are typically species of grassy areas and moist
subalpine sites.
The species have flowers with small, dry tepals. The
flowers occur in inflorescences that are terminal on
usually erect, unbranched stems, but with a stem-like
bract extending above the inflorescence.
It is closely related to Juncus,
but the leaves are conspicuously hairy and each fruit has
only one seed.
