Empodisma minus is one of the most common and
widespread native species in Tasmania. It occurs in
wet heaths throughout Tasmania, ranging from sea level to
alpine areas. It is a more-or-less typical member of
Restionaceae, with cylindrical stems with several dry
scale-leaves, and terminal inflorescences of multiple
spikelets. The stems are sinuous and shiny green and can
form tangled masses in vegetation. They are closely related
to Calorophus, but
has woolly hairs protruding from under the scale-leaves, and
is generally shorter than Calorophus.
