| Lyperanthus
suaveolens (brown beaks) is a fairly common species
that grows in poorly drained, often heathy or grassy areas,
mostly near the east and south-east coasts.
This species has a single, narrow, stiff, erect leaf. The
flowering stalk (scape) is erect, unbranched and wiry, and
bears several shortly stalked flowers. The flowers are
dark and relatively inconspicuous, with narrow, dark brown
sepals and petals that spread quite widely.
Lyperanthus nigricans is now known as Pyrorchis
nigricans.
