| Leptoceras
menziesii (hares ears or rabbit orchid) is a fairly
common species that grows in dry heathy areas near the north
coast.
This species has a single, broad leaf that is usually
held more-or-less on the ground. The flowering stalk
(scape) is erect and unbranched and bears 1-3 shortly
stalked flowers. The flowers are quite distinctive - they
have two long, narrow, club-like red petals that are held
upright, and two broader, white sepals that are held more
or less forward.
