| Glossodia
major (waxlip orchid) is a widespread and common,
ground orchid that flowers in spring. It has a single leaf a
few cm long, and up to 2 cm wide, and a wiry, unbranched
flowering stalk that bears one or two flowers. The flowers
are quite large (3-5 cm across), purple, with five
petals/sepals that are almost of the same size, and arranged
almost symmetrically. |
