| Tasmania
has a single introduced species of the large African genus
of orchids, Disa (Disa bracteata). This is
the only species of orchid known to be naturalised in
Tasmania.
This weedy species has large, dense erect flowering stems
(up to 75 cm tall) with numerous small, greenish flowers.
The inflorescence somewhat resembles an asparagus spear.
It resembles some Microtis species, but the
flowers have small, yellow tongue-like labella (and the
flowers are no inverted). The leaves are narrow, with many
veins.
