| Tasmania
has a single species of hyacinth orchid (Dipodium roseum).
This is a very conspicuous plant when in flower, but because
it is saprophytic it is has no above ground parts when the
flower stalks die off. The leafless brown stems bear
abundant pink flowers with spreading sepals and petals
(except for the labellum).
This species is quite common on dry, nutrient poor sites
(e.g. on Permian mudstones and Mathinna beds).
