| Phormium
tenax (new zealand flax) has become naturalised in
Tasmania. It is a very large monocot, with a tuft of tough,
strap-like leaves that are erect at the base but curve so
that they are drooping down at the ends. They are often 2-3
m long and 5-12 cm wide. The flowers are reddish, tubular, a
few cm long, and occur on large erect spikes. |
