| Kniphofia
uvaria (red hot pokers) is a large monocot grown in
many gardens throughout Tasmania. It is sparingly
naturalised on or near the sites of old gardens. It is a
large plant with channelled leaves often about 50 cm long.
The inflorescence is distinctive. It is large, conspicuous
and spike-like and is made of closely spaced bright red
tubular flowers. The spike occurs at the end of a long stalk
(typically ~ 1 m long). |
