Ipheion uniflorum is a moderately common garden plant that is occasionally established in reserves, especially in urban areas. It smells distinctly of garlic, has erect stalks each bearing a single flower a few cm across. The petals and sepals are similar in size and shape, are pale blue or white with a darker central stripe. The leaves are typically 10-20 cm long, and 5-10 mm wide. It grows in clumps from bulbs.
