| Dianella
is a very common and conspicuous component of
Tasmania's native flora. The species occur in a wide range
of habitats, but are especially common in dry sclerophyll
forests and open wet sclerophyll forests. There are four
native species. Each has numerous basal leaves (up to about
1m long and 1-2cm wide), and a terminal inflorescence with
pendulous blue-purple flowers. The most distinctive feature
is that the stamens have a prominent bright yellow swelling
below the anthers. The fruit is a slightly elongated purple
berry about 1-2 cm long. |
