| Alstroemeria
aurea is commonly grown as a garden ornamental, that
has become established in native wet forest in a couple of
places (e.g. near Ferntree). It has erect stems with leaves
scattered up them. The flowers are large and conspicuous
(typically, bright orange with brown flecks in the upper
petal). It is native to southern South America.
Alstroemeria was once considered to be part of
Liliaceae, which was a very artificial grouping of plants
and has therefore been splintered in numerous families. To
