Tasmania
has three native species from this family, one species of
Hypoxis and two species of Pauridia.
These
are species of open vegetation ranging from coastal heaths
and herbfields to inland grasslands and woodlands. The
leaves are basal and grass-like. The flowers are
conspicuous and yellow.
Hypoxidaceae
was once considered to be part of Liliaceae, which was a
very artificial grouping of plants and has therefore been
splintered into numerous families. To see the fates of the
