Watsonia meriana (bulbil
watsonia) is an introduced, stout herb. A
garden-escapee, its dense stands have been recorded in
bush reserves and along roadsides, throughout the
State. Two variations exist in Tasmania. W.
meriana var. bulbillifera is 1-2 m high and produces
prominent clusters of bulbils (cormils) along the lower
stem. Its flowers are brick-red or salmon-pink, with no
seeds. W. meriana var. meriana is 60 cm-1 m high,
produces no bulbils, but has seeds. Its flowers are
brick-red to dull-pink.
