Patersonia
occidentalis is a tufted herb with leaves up to 35 cm
long and scapes up to 47 cm high. The violet to blue-violet
flowers shrivel quickly.
It grows in heathlands and grassy vegetation at low
altitudes around tasmania in wetter sites than P. fragilis.
