There
are 2 species in Tasmania - S. micranthum and the
sparsely recorded, S. striatum.
Sisyrinchium micranthum (blue pigroot) is an
occasional weed of roadsides and waste areas. It has very
flattened stems with scattered, flattened, glaucous leaves
up to 20cm long. The flowers are white-cream with purplish
veins, with six more or less similar petals/sepals. The
flowers occur in clusters of 2-5 (usually with only one
flower open at a time). The stamens and styles are short and
hidden by the perianth parts. The filaments of the stamens
form a tube around the styles.
