Tasmania
has two native species of Patersonia (purpleflag). P.
fragilis (short purpleflag) is found in heaths and
sedgeland, while P. occidentalis (long purpleflag)
grows in swampy places.
Both species have long, flat, thick leaves that form clumps.
The flowers are pale to moderately bright blue to violet,
with three obvious petal-like sepals, and three much smaller
petals.
