Marsilea
mutica (smooth nardoo) is the only member of this
genus in Tasmania. It is a very rare aquatic plant in
Tasmania. A place it is known from is a dam at Geeveston and
on the creek downstream. It is considered to be introduced.
It is an extremely distinctive plant. The leaf lamina
strongly resembles a four-leaved clover and floats on the
surface of the water. The leaves have long stalks arising
from the rhizome which is typically embedded in a muddy
substrate. The sporangia occur in sporocarps attached by
stalks to the rhizome.
