Asperula
scoparia is a small, rare, native species of open
woodlands, where it forms quite dense clumps. It has
leaves 3-8mm long and in whorls of six. The densely hairy
stems are distinctive. The nodes tend to be somewhat
thickened and darker in colour - giving the plant a
distinctive jointed appearance, like a horsetail (Equisetum).
