| Tasmania
has six native and two naturalised species of Coprosma.
These plants are all dioecious, except C. moorei
(blue matcurrant). The flowers show the typical features of
wind pollination with small petals and sepals, but large
stamens (male flowers) and stigmas (female flowers).
Of the native species, C. hirtella (coffeeberry)
is a shrub with broad leaves, C. quadrifida (native
currant) and C. nitida (mountain currant)
are narrow leaved shrubs, which are often spiny. C.
moorei (blue matcurrant), C. pumila (dwarf
matcurrant) and C. perpusilla (orange
matcurrant) are prostrate plants.
The two naturalised species C. repens
(mirrorbush) and C. robusta (karamu) are robust
shrubs with large, round, shining leaves.
