| Tasmania
has four introduced species of Vulpia. These are
slender, more-or-less erect annual grasses. The leaves are
narrow (<3mm wide) and quite long (up to 18cm). The
inflorescence is a narrow raceme or panicle. The spikelets
are quite narrow with long slender awns. They have several
flowers and the lower glume is much smaller than the upper
one.
Vulpia myuros (ratstail fescue); V.
fasciculata (dune fescue); V. bromoides
(squirreltail fescue). V. myuros and V.
bromoides are also known as hair grass.
