| Tasmania
has three introduced species of Paspalum. These are
very distinctive weed species. The inflorescence consists of
1-3 racemes loosely arranged on the culms. The racemes are
narrow and compact, with spikelets in pairs and these pairs
arranged in two rows pressed against the elongated axis. The
rows are on one side of the axis. Thus the raceme appears to
have four neatly arranged rows of spikelets. The spikelets
are almost as wide as long, and have no awns.
Paspalum urvillei is vasey grass. P. distichum
is water couch.
