| Tasmania
has four introduced species of panic grass (Panicum spp.).
The Tasmanian species are all quite coarse grasses found in
warmer areas. The leaves are flat, broad (up to 15mm wide),
with the ligule either completely absent or in the form of a
membrane, usually ending in hairs. The inflorescence is a
very loose panicle of small, awnless spikelets. The spikes
have one fertile floret subtended by a flower that may be
male, may be sterile and has a small, or no palea. |
