Blady
grass (Imperata cylindrica) is a common native grass
of coastal dunes in the northern half of Tasmania. It is a
rhizomatous grass with quite large, erect flowering stalks
and relatively large flattish leaves (up to 30cm long and
5-10mm wide). The inflorescence is a dense,
cylindrical, silky hairy panicle. The spikelets are awnless,
have one fertile flower and one sterile f;ower and occur in
pairs, with one sessile spikelet and one on a long stalk
covered in silky hairs.
