| Tasmania
has four introduced species of Echinochloa (barnyardgrass).
These are all largish grasses with broad leaves (up to
25mm wide). The leaves in the Tasmanian species are unusual
among grasses in that they lack ligules. The inflorescence
is made up of a loose series of racemes of densely clustered
spikelets. The spikelets are two-flowered, with the lower
flower lacking stamens and ovaries, the upper hermaphrodite.
