| Tasmania
has two introduced species of Cynosurus (dogstail).
C. cristatus (crested dogstail) and C. echinatus
(rough dogstail). The distinctive feature of these species
is the nature of the spikelets - they occur in pairs, one of
which has no flowers, but has the glumes and lemmas widely
spreading in a fan, the other spikelet has flowers and is
compact. The florets may or may not have awns. |
