| Aristida
benthamii is an uncommon weed. It may be a recent
introduction that is expanding out from its current range in
the Fingal Valley. It is a tufted perennial that grows in
dry, disturbed areas. The inflorescences are quite compact
panicles. The spikelets are one flowered. However, the most
distinctive feature is the floret, which has three widely
spreading, stiff awns 10-15 mm long. The florets fall free,
leaving the glumes attached to the inflorescence. |
