has three introduced species of Alopecurus (foxtail).
The inflorescence is a soft, dense spike-like panicle. The
spikelets have a single flower, the glumes are similar in
size and are fused together at the base. The lemma has an
awn attached near the base of the lemma.
A. pratensis (meadow foxtail) is a common
agricultural weed.
