| Plantago
leptostachys (alpine plantain) is a small
native rosette herb without a taproot, but with thick
spreading roots. It is a reasonably common alpine species
that grows in cushion plants, alpine sedgelands and
grasslands. The leaves are about 2-5cm long and are
more-or-less hairless and have a petiole almost as long as
the blade. The species otherwise resembles P.
tasmanica, which has hairy leaves with a short,
stout petiole. |
