| Hakea
is a large genus of shrubs or small trees that are
characterised by very woody follicles. The Tasmanian native
species (except H. ulicina) have cylindrical leaves
which are often curved upwards, and are often quite hard.
However, juvenile leaves are sometimes slightly flattened
The species are mostly separated by the form of the woody
follicle, and to a lesser extent on the size of the leaves.
Species are also reasonably well differentiated according to
habitat.
A few species appear to be naturalised in Tasmania.
