Oxalis rubens is a herbaceous native species that grows near the coast on beaches, sand-dunes and sandy heaths.

The stems are reddish, hairless or sparsely hairy and root at the nodes. The flowers are yellow, the leaves are trifoliate (with three leaflets) and sometimes bluish.
