Tropaeolum majus (nasturtium) is the only member of the Tropaeolaceae in Tasmania. This is a very common plant in gardens, both planted and as a weed. It has naturalised damp banks in urban areas.

It is an unmistakeable plant - a large scrambling herb with quite large large, soft, slightly blue, circular leaves. The flowers are edible and have brightly coloured (often orange) flowers.

It is worth noting that this species is unrelated to the genus Nasturtium, which is a member of Brassicaceae.
