| Tasmania
has two introduced genera of this family, Dipsacus
and Scabiosa. The family is closely related to the
daisy family (Asteraceae), but differs in that the stamens
do not form a cylinder around the style. However, the three
species in Tasmania are obvious because of their large
flower heads. Dipsacus has conspicuous spiny bracts
and Scabiosa has flower heads with relatively large
(~1.5 cm long) brightly coloured flowers with asymmetrical
corollas.
