Eccremidium is represented in Tasmania by 4 species. Species of Eccremidium mostly occur in dry habitats and are extremely small (less than a few millimeters tall) and inconspicuous in the absence of capsules. When sighted, they look like miniature asparagus shoots. Microscopy is often necessary even to ascertain the genus and indispensible for species determination.
