| The
Tasmanian species of Haloragaceae fall into two very
distinct groups. Haloragis and Gonocarpus
(raspworts) are smallish, erect, terrestrial native herbs,
mostly scabrous, giving them a distinctive ‘sandpaper’ feel.
The genus Myriophyllum contains several aquatic
species and the genus Meionectes contains a single aquatic
or semi-aquatic species formerly known as Haloragis
brownii. All species have small, inconspicuous flowers
and fruit. Most species are native, but one species of Myriophyllum
is naturalised. |
