Allocasuarina crassa (Casuarinaceae)

| Allocasuarina
crassa (cape pillar sheoak) is only found on the
south-eastern tip of the Tasman Peninsula (near Cape
Pillar). It is closely related to A.
monilifera, A.
zephyrea and A.
duncanii , but is easily distinguished from
these species by its thick branchlets with hairy furrows. It
is a tough shrub found in coastal heath. It ranges from a
very low growing plant in wind-blasted heaths to a small
tree. Large numbers of hybrids between A. crassa and
A. monilifera occur part of the way out towards Cape
Pillar |
