Tasmania
has one native and four introduced species of Lotus (trefoil).
The leaves of these herbs are reasonably distinctive - they
have five leaflets, of which two are at the base. The other
three are at the end of the petiole. It would be possible to
misinterpret these leaves as trifoliate leaves with two
basal stipules.
