The
Elaeocarpaceae are a family of trees and shrubs. The
widespread genus Tetratheca, formerly in the family
Tremandraceae has been added to this family.
The other two Tasmanian species in this family are Aristotelia
peduncularis, a straggling understorey shrub
widespread in wet forests and Elaeocarpus reticulatus,
a small wet forest tree occurring in Tasmania only on King
and Flinders Islands. Both have conspicuous fleshy fruit and
flowers with lobed petals.
