| The
Tasmanian species of this family are all native shrubs from
the genus Hibbertia (guineaflower). They are common
in heathy and sclerophyll vegetation types, and range in
habit from prostate to upright to scrambling over other
plants. The flowers are conspicuous, with five spreading,
bright yellow petals. The stamens are indeterminate in
number and usually numerous, and in some species are
clustered on one side of the carpels. There are 2-5 free (or
almost free) carpels. The leaves are small and alternate. |
